Brown sugar Oatmeal with fruit

Oatmeal is a very nutritional choice for breakfast. For toddlers and kids, it can make a great meal or afternoon snack. Store bought flavored oatmeal can contain a lot more sugar than you want in yours. Making oatmeal using quick cooking rolled oats only takes minutes.

Brown sugar oatmeal

Kind of food: Breakfast, Snack
How long: 5-10 min
Makes: 2 cups
Pots & Pan: Pot

Ingredients
1/4 cup quick rolled oats – Plain
1/2 cup low fat milk
1/2 cup water
2 tbsp Brown sugar ( or less)
1 pinch of salt (optional)
1/2 cup chopped apples
2 tsp Maple syrup

How to make:
Place oats, water, milk, sugar and salt(optional) in a pot and set it on medium-high heat. Bring it to a boil and cook for about 3-4 min.  While the oats is cooking, chop up the apple. Transfer the cooked oats to a bowl, mix in the apples. Drizzle some maple syrup and serve warm.

Tip, tricks and alternatives
The oats will cook faster and creamier when started in cold milk and water. Do not heat the milk and water separately and then add the oats.
The salt in the oatmeal is to bring out the flavors better and add a more dimension
If you want to create more flavor – you can dust some cinnamon or use different types of flavored syrups.

Serving suggestions
Use any other fruit of your choice – berries, bananas, raisins etc. Apples have a good crunch to it and tastes great with maple syrup.
